Assemblyman John McKeon (D-West Orange) will run for reelection in 2019.

“Yes,” McKeon told the New Jersey Globe when asked if he planned to seek a 10th term in the Assembly. “Why would you think otherwise?”

McKeon has served in the legislature since he was first elected in the 27th district in 2001.

State Sen. Nia Gill and Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones, then both members of the Assembly, previously held the district’s seats, but Gill ran for state Senate in the 34th after redistricting moved a number of municipalities there. Jones left the legislature to mount a mayoral run in East Orange.
