Gerald Scharfenberger elected to State Assembly

DiMaso wins to keep 13th district seats in GOP hands

The New Jersey Globe is projecting that Republican Gerald Scharfenberger has won an open seat in the New Jersey State Assembly in the 13th district.

His running mate, Serena DiMaso, was re-elected to a second term.

They defeated Democrats Allison Friedman and Barbara Singer.

Scharfenberger gave up his seat on the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders to run for the seat being vacated after fourteen years by retiring Assemblywoman Amy Handlin.

Friedman who lost to Handlin and Declan O’Scanlon in 2013 by more than 19,000 votes.

Republicans ended a twelve-year winning streak by Democrats in the 13th district in 1985 and have held the seats continuously since then.
