DeGise against constitutional amendment

Joins Sacco and Stack in opposition to redistricting plan

By David Wildstein, December 10 2018 3:58 pm

Hudson County Democratic Chair Amy DeGise says she opposes a constitutional amendment to change the way legislative districts are drawn.

Two Hudson senators, Nicholas Sacco (D-North Bergen) and Brian Stack (D-Union City) announced this morning that they also opposed the plan advocated by New Jersey’s Democratic legislative leadership.

“This is an undemocratic amendment that goes against the progressive values of our party,” said DeGise. “The process as it is now has resulted in increased representation for minorities in this legislature and we should be working to increase that representation. I am thankful that Governor Murphy, Senator Sacco and Senator Stack have each taken a public stand against this proposal and I hope my fellow County Chairs and all Democrats can come together to defeat it. If our party stoops to the level of gerrymandering seen in other parts of the country we are no better than the Republicans we rightfully call out for engaging in that disgraceful practice.”
