Rep.-elect Mikie Sherrill is aiming for spots on the House Armed Services and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.
Fellow New Jersey Reps. Donald Payne and Albio Sires sit on the latter committee. Rep. Donald Norcross sits on the Armed Services Committee. Outgoing Rep. Frank LoBiondo has a seat on both.
Committee assignments won’t come out until January, but Sherrill has an ally in her corner.
Rep. Bill Pascrell represents the Mideast, which includes New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and Washington D.C., on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. In that role, he has some degree of control over committee assignments.
“I’m accumulating all of the requests from all members — mostly freshmen — that want to be on certain committees,” Pascrell told the New Jersey Globe Monday. “We don’t even know how many slots we’re going to have yet.”
Despite that lack of clarity, Sherrill felt good about her chances.
“With the winds in Jersey and Virginia, we’re a very powerful region,” she said. “And I think Rep. Pascrell is going to fight hard, so I’m hopeful.”
