Cruz-Perez hasn’t picked presidential favorite

Senator undecided on open primaries

State Sen. Nilsa Cruz-Perez hasn’t picked a presidential favorite.

“My guy was Cory Booker, and he’s out of the race,” she said. “So, I’m watching to see what develops.”

Booker suspended his campaign in January after failing to qualify for a second consecutive primary debate.

Since then, many of the New Jersey politicians that endorsed him have remained undecided on the contest for head of state.

Some, including Booker and U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, have asked for the state to hold open presidential primaries, calling on Democratic County Organizations to not bracket presidential candidates.

Cruz-Perez said she’s not decided whether she agrees with the U.S. senators.

“I don’t know yet,” she said.
