Bucco still undecided on Morris GOP chair race

Senator thinks Ali could win without contest

State Sen. Tony Bucco said he’s still undecided on who he’ll back for Morris County Republican chair.

So far, acting Chairwoman Laura Ali is the only candidate in the running to officially replace Morris County Republican Chairman Ron DeFilippis, who temporarily stepped away from the organization in November due to health and personal reasons.

Bucco said he thought the succession might get accomplished without much of the infighting that has consumed Morris Republicans over past years.

“Maybe things will get worked out, bring the party together a bit,” Bucco said.

Bucco said he’d prefer a peaceful solution.

Rob Zwigard, who ran against DeFilippis for control of the county committee in 2018, has expressed interest in a second bid.

“I haven’t heard anything, nor have I spoken to anyone about it,” Bucco said.
