Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt says that the publication of a much-anticipated Wall Street Journal story on allegations of sexual assault by former Murphy administration official Albert Alvarez should be enough for New Jersey legislative leaders to launch an independent investigation.
“I hope that Steve Sweeney and Craig Coughlin have read enough now to act honorably and ask those named in this heart rending story to explain how this brave woman was ignored and forced to seek out the Wall Street Journal before anyone would listen,” said Steinhardt.
Katie Brennan, who was a volunteer on Phil Murphy’s 2017 gubernatorial campaign, issued a statement after the newspaper story was published saying that Alvarez raped her in October 2017.
Murphy is scheduled to depart on a nine-day trade mission to Germany and Israel tomorrow.
Steinhardt says that the governor should cancel the trip to his “German castle” and find how why his “administration left Katie Brennan to fend for herself.”
