Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) has a 24%-11% lead over former Senate President Steve Sweeney with two other candidates at 9%, according to an internal poll from the Sherrill campaign that was obtained and reviewed by the New Jersey Globe.

The Sherrill poll has Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly) and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka tied for third place with 9%, followed by New Jersey Education Association President Sean Spiller (5%) and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop (4%).

Nearly four-in-ten likely Democratic primary voters (38%) remain undecided.

The poll, conducted by the Global Strategy Group, has Sherrill’s favorables at 41%-6%; Gottheimer is at 28%-6%, Sweeney at 25%-21%, Baraka at 26%-9%, Fulop at 19%-8%, and Spiller at 17%-9%.

“She enters the race with a clear lead. Moreover, she has room to grow – with her vote share increasing after voters learn more about each candidate and remaining higher even after simulated heavy spending against her,” said Jeffrey Plaut and Angela Kuefler of GSG.

This is the second internal poll from the Sherrill side today. One conducted by the Laborers’ union shows Sherrill leading Baraka by 25% to 12%, followed by Gottheimer (10%), Fulop (9%), Sweeney (9%), and Spiller (7%).

The Global Strategy Group poll was conducted November 20-24 with a sample size of 800 likely Democratic primary voters and a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.
