Murphy wants homophobic Trenton councilwoman to resign

Governor: ‘hateful language is never acceptable’

Gov. Phil Murphy has called on Trenton Councilwoman Robin Vaughn to resign after making repeated homophobic statements on a Saturday COVID-19 conference call.

“Hateful language is never acceptable, and audio of the Trenton conference call demonstrates multiple parties engaging in an inappropriate and deeply troubling exchange,” said Alyana Alfaro, a spokesperson for Murphy.  “Governor Murphy condemns the hateful and homophobic comments made by Councilwoman Vaughn in the strongest terms.

Vaughn’s comments were hurled at Mayor Reed Gusciora, who is openly gay, as well as another member of the city council.

“Our elected officials must be held to the highest standard and these remarks fly in the face of her office,” Alfaro said.  “The Governor believes she should resign immediately.”
