Garden State Equality tells Vaughn to resign after homophobic rant

By David Wildstein, May 03 2020 12:47 pm

Garden State Equality is calling for the resignation of Trenton Councilwoman Robin Vaughn after her homophobic tirade aimed at Mayor Reed Gusciora during a COVID-19 conference call on Saturday.

“Councilwoman Vaughn is unfit to serve the people of Trenton,” said Christian Fuscarino, the executive director of the state’s largest gay rights advocacy group.  “There’s no need to parse words here: for her hateful anti-LGBTQ language and defending the anti-Semitic slurs of others, she must resign.”

The Trentonian reported that Vaughn accused Councilman Joseph Harrison of sucking Gusciora’s dick when her colleague voiced support for the mayor.

Gusciora is Trenton’s first openly gay mayor.

“Her words are an attack on the diversity of Trenton’s community, the city’s elected leadership, and our state as a whole, Fuscarino said.  “Any decent-minded New Jerseyan who believes in the success and future of our state’s capital should denounce this hateful rhetoric and call for her to step down immediately.”

Editor’s note: Trenton released the audio recording of the conference call.
