Currie wants Vaughn to resign

By David Wildstein, May 04 2020 11:57 am

Democratic State Chairman John Currie is demanding the immediate resignation of Robin Vaughn for the Trenton City Council.

“Councilwoman Vaughn’s homophobic attack on Mayor (Reed) Gusciora is reprehensible and this kind of conduct does not reflect the values of our Democratic Party and our state,” Currie said.  “For the good of the community she represents, Councilwoman Vaughn should immediately step down and apologize for her comments so that the City of Trenton can begin to heal and move on from this unfortunate and embarrassing episode.”

Currie is among several top State Democrats, including Gov. Phil Murphy and U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, to call for Vaughn’s ouster.  Earlier today, the New Jersey Democratic LGBTQ Caucus asked Vaughn to resign.

On a council conference call on Saturday to discuss the city’s response to the coronavirus, Vaughn engaged in a 30-minute homophobic tirade aimed at Gusciora, who is openly gay.
