Murphy still in New Jersey to manage snow response

Governor will not depart for DGA meeting in San Francisco until tomorrow, if at all

Gov. Phil Murphy has delayed trip to the Democratic Governors Association meeting in San Francisco by at least another day to monitor the effects of a snowstorm in New Jersey, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Murphy will not leave his home state until at least tomorrow, and it’s not immediately clear if he will make the trip at all.

First Lady Tammy Murphy is in California and attending public DGA events in the governor’s place.

Murphy will assume the chairmanship of the DGA this week and will be responsible for assisting Democratic gubernatorial candidates in eleven states in 2020.

Departures from the state during weather emergencies come with some political liabilities.

Gov. Chris Christie was criticized for being in Orlando during a snowstorm during his first year as governor.  After that, he made governing during bad weather one of the hallmarks of his two terms in office.
