Gov. Phil Murphy is sending 50 New Jersey state troopers to aid in the assault on the nation’s Capitol.
“At the request of DC officials, I am deploying the @NJSP to the District of Columbia to facilitate the peaceful transition of power & protect our democracy. We are prepared to deploy the @NJNationalGuard upon request,” Murphy said on Twitter. “May God Bless America and our brave men and women in uniform.”
President Donald Trump’s supporters, at his urging, stormed Congress as members in each chamber were tallying electoral votes that will certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
All 14 members of the state’s congressional delegation are safe amid the assault, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.
