The New Jersey Democratic State Committee has ended its relationship with strategist Adam Alonso following a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report that he has been suspended from his post as chief of staff at the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention after allegations of a toxic work environment.
“The New Jersey Democratic State Committee is no longer affiliated with Mr. Alonso and his firm,” the state party said in a statement emailed by executive director Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye.
Alonso had been a consultant for the state party since 2018, when he left his post as deputy chief of staff to Gov. Phil Murphy.
His firm, the Cratos Group, employs Lizette Delgado-Polanco, who had been ousted last year from her post as CEO of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.
Elizabeth Gilbert, a former state party executive director, and Alonso are being investigated by attorneys for the host committee for creating a toxic environment and for delivering contracts to New Jersey consultants.
