The New Jersey Globe projects that Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. has been re-elected to a fifth term.

DiVincenzo has defeated Republican John Chiaia, a North Caldwell councilman.

He was elected in 2002, after Republican James Treffinger did not seek re-election, and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura, in office since 1991, has defeated Caldwell councilman Pasquale Capozzoli, a Republican.

Democrat Alturrick Kenney, a former Newark deputy mayor and school board member, defeated Belleville attorney John Anello for Surrogate.  The seat became vacant in September when Ted Stephens resigned to become Essex County Prosecutor.

Democrat Tyshammie Cooper, an East Orange city councilwoman, was elected Essex County freeholder for District 3.  She will replace interim freeholder Jeanine Bauer, who was appointed last April after Britnee Timberlake resigned to take a seat in the State Assembly.
