Democratic State Chairman John Currie has named Lauren Albrecht, a state committeewoman from Monmouth County, as chair of the party’s LGBT caucus.
Albrecht has a vote in the race for state chairman, where Currie is facing a re-election challenge from Essex County Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones.
“The LGBT community has played an integral role in building our party and advocating for equality and justice for all,” said Currie. “Lauren has demonstrated she is passionate about fighting for the rights of our LGBT friends and some of our state’s most vulnerable residents. I look forward to continue working side by side with Lauren, David and the entire Caucus to continue building a diverse and more inclusive Party.”
Albrecht, the chair of the Monmouth and Ocean Democrats LGBTQ Caucus since 2014, will succeed Chris Hillmann in the post.
“Working with the LGBT Caucus has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience as we advocate for inclusion and representation in legislature,” said Albrecht. “I am honored to undertake this chairperson role in 2019 and look forward to making further progress towards equality. I thank Chris for his years of service and commitment to Caucus.”
