Assemblyman Jay Webber is firing back at Mikie Sherrill, using her own call for Webber to return a donation from U.S. Sen Tom Cotton against her.
Sherrill on Wednesday called for Webber to return money donated by Cotton because the latter voted against extending a flood insurance program that Webber supported. On Friday, Webber turned that attack over, calling for Sherrill to return donations from legislators that did not vote in favor of a resolution announcing support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Two days ago, Mikie Sherrill made a ridiculous claim that candidates for Congress should return any campaign contributions from elected officials that hold even one differing position from their own,” Webber said. “I reject that idea as silly, but if Mikie believes that is the appropriate standard by which to conduct a campaign, then we invite her to live up her own standard. At the same time, Mikie has the perfect opportunity to prove that she really does support the Law Enforcement community.”
Webber said Sherrill, who on Wednesday said she supported the agency, should return $91,500 donated by Democratic legislators who did not vote in favor of the resolution.
