Mikie Sherrill today slammed Arkansas U.S. Senator Tom Cotton hours before he is set to speak tonight at a fundraiser for her Republican opponent, Jay Webber.
The Democratic House candidate says that Cotton’s opposition to federal disaster aid following Superstorm Sandy –“I don’t think Arkansas needs to bail out the Northeast.” – should have stopped Webber from seeking his support.
Webber and Cotton have been friends for twenty years. The senator endorsed him in the GOP congressional primary and headlined a Washington fundraiser for Webber last March.
“Assemblyman Jay Webber knows that Senator Cotton doesn’t value New Jersey families, but campaigns with him in order to push their ideological agenda of repealing healthcare and restricting the rights of women and the LGBTQ community,” said Sherrill. “These are not our values, and this event further highlights the fact that Assemblyman Webber will put partisan politics ahead of New Jersey residents if elected in November.”
In August, Sherrill called on Webber to return money raised at the March event after he voted against federal flood insurance protection for parts of the 11th district.
The Sherrill campaign says that Arkansas receives $1.66 of federal funding for every $1 they send to Washington, while New Jersey only receives 74 cents back.
Now, would that be the same Tehran Tom Cotton who penned a letter to the Iranian leadership expressing his criticism of the sitting American president, Barack Obama?
That Tom Cotton?
