Van Drew stars in House GOP video promoting impeachment inquiry

With the House set to take a vote this week on formally opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden this week, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) has a starring role in a new GOP video justifying the inquiry and explaining the reasons behind it.

“Over the last several months, the Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means Committees have uncovered evidence of a Biden family influence-peddling scheme,” Van Drew says in the video, which has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on social media. “Evidence across the investigation continues to grow. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Van Drew is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, putting him at the forefront of the investigation into alleged malfeasance by Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. The investigation has not turned up concrete evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the president, but Van Drew said that properly authorizing an impeachment inquiry is necessary to do further digging.

“The inquiry phase of our investigation enables us to examine the necessary information to not only answer these questions, but help us determine the grounds for articles of impeachment,” Van Drew said.

Back in September, when the investigation was first announced, Van Drew and fellow New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) both said they supported an impeachment inquiry. Even before the investigation officially began, Van Drew – who initially became a Republican in 2019 after objecting to then-President Donald Trump’s impeachment – said that “crooked” Biden should be impeached.

But New Jersey’s third Republican congressman, Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield), has not said where he stands on the impeachment inquiry. His stance likely won’t be revealed until the House holds a roll-call vote, which could come as soon as tomorrow.
