The Congressional Leadership Fund is back on the air in the third congressional district with a new ad attacking former Obama staffer Andy Kim.
The ad hits Kim over his opposition to the tax plan Republicans passed last year while praising Rep. Tom MacArthur for the same.
MacArthur was one of only two members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation to vote in favor of the bill, which provides less benefit to New Jersey than other states because of the $10,000 cap imposed on state and local tax deductions.
The Republican-led House Ways and Means Committee says the new plan saves families in the district $3,500 on average, though the figures produced by the committee have been disputed this campaign season, including in the 11th district, where the plan has been used by both Assemblyman Jay Webber and Mikie Sherrill.
It also repeats a claim that Kim improperly took a $70,000 tax break on a condo in Washington. Kim has denied that charge as well as the amount. He has said the tax break has since been repaid.
In something of an odd turn, the ad attempts to link Kim with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a perpetually unpopular figure among Republican voters, saying the two would ally to raise taxes.
Kim told the New Jersey Globe in June that he would not vote Pelosi into a leadership role were he elected to the House.
