Republican House candidate Robert Patterson called on Rep. Jeff Van Drew to return campaign contributions made by Democratic members of congress Friday.
“The Van Drew Switcheroo shows that Cong. Van Drew is a liberal opportunist who only cares about protecting his political career,” Patterson said. “Now that Van Drew is reinventing himself as a Republican, he should return all of his Democrat money.”
Patterson cited donations made to Van Drew by 22 Democratic congresspeople and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker.
Van Drew defected to the Republican party on Thursday.
Before his switch, Van Drew saw his support among Democrats falter over his opposition to the impeachment of President Donald Trump, who has endorsed the first-term congressman.
