A $2,800-per-person fundraiser for the re-election campaign of Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) headlined by Gov. Phil Murphy and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi includes the president of the state’s largest public employee union.

New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) president Marie Blistan is listed as a host committee member for the Norcross fundraiser.  Blistan also hosted a Norcross event in September that included Hetty Rosenstein, the state CWA director.

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, and former Gov. Jim Florio, are also hosting the event.

The endorsement of Norcross’ re-election by progressive leaders like Murphy and Blistan, both critics of the congressman’s brother, Democratic powerbroker George Norcross, continues to box out any primary challenge from the grassroots progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

The NJEA spent nearly $5 million trying to oust Senate President Steve Sweeney, a key member of the Norcross political organization, in 2017.

New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council President Bill Mullen, New Jersey AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech, National AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Shuler, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Executive Secretary-Treasurer William Sproule, IBEW Local 351 business manager Daniel Cosner, and New Jersey State NAACP President Richard T. Smith are also hosting the Norcross-Murphy-Pelosi event.
