Malinowski declines to say if he’d rather face Kean or Becchi

First-term congressman represents competitive district

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Rocky Hill) declined to say whether he preferred to face Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) or former U.S. Senate staffer Rosemary Becchi when he defends his seat in 2020.

“Not an appropriate place for that kind of question,” Malinowski said when asked which of the two he’d want to run against.

Malinowski was asked the question at a press conference during a day spent touring the state’s military installation with Gov. Phil Murphy and eight other members of the state’s House delegation.

The congressman ousted Rep. Leonard Lance to win his seat last year, flipping a seat the GOP had held for more than a decade.
