Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) said he’d lend some financial aid to Democrats seeking seats in the Assembly this year.
“I’m going to do whatever I need to fight hard,” Gottheimer said. “I’ve always helped out others, so I’ll continue to do so.”
Gottheimer is one of the state’s most skilled fundraisers. He brought in about $907,000 during the second quarter of 2019, bringing his cash on hand up to $5.7 million.
The congressman declined to indicate how much money he was willing to put into the few competitive races in the state, but state-level races tend to be far less expensive than those on the federal level.
That means that even a relatively small part of Gottheimer’s war chest could make or break candidacies as Assembly Democrats fight to hold onto their veto-proof majority.
