Rep. Josh Gottheimer’s progressive primary challenger doesn’t like the congressman’s pick for president.

Glen Rock Councilwoman Arati Kreibich attacked the first-term representative for backing billionaire former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Thursday.

“Let’s be clear: Michael Bloomberg is a billionaire whose past and present is plagued with sexism, racism, and a commitment to corporate donors over the American people,” Kreibich said. “The fact that my opponent Rep. Josh Gottheimer has chosen to endorse him out of our highly qualified democratic field is deeply disappointing and signals a total lack of commitment to the people of NJ-5.’”

Gottheimer has ties to Bloomberg, who has spent millions of his own money on television ads and campaign infrastructure since entering the presidential race in November.

The congressman’s brother-in-law, Bradley Tusk, worked for Bloomberg when he was mayor and is an advisor on his presidential campaign.

“Bloomberg doesn’t represent the true values of the Democratic Party, and neither does Rep. Gottheimer,” Kreibich said. “I’m running for Congress because New Jersey’s 5th District deserves a real Democrat who will stand up to billionaires like Bloomberg and Trump instead of cozying up to them. I’m committed to fighting for working families of New Jersey by refusing corporate PAC donations and supporting universal healthcare and climate justice.”
