Forty Democratic county committee members in Bergen County have endorsed Arati Kreibich for Congress in New Jersey’ 5th district.

Kreibich faces two-term Rep. Josh Gottheimer in a bid for the organization line at the Bergen Democratic convention on Thursday.  The Glen Rock councilwoman said she expects party leaders to support Gottheimer.

“While I have no doubt the Democratic machine will continue to side with the incumbent, it is gratifying to have so many of these grassroots activists on our side,” Kreibich said. “They understand that if we want real change, we need to stand up for our real Democratic values instead of kowtowing to Republicans.”

There are about 666 Democratic county committee seats in the 5th district portion of Bergen County, although it’s not immediately known how many of them are filled.

Kreibich has the support of six of the borough’s sixteen county committee members in her hometown of Glen Rock, and five of the twenty from Wyckoff, where Gottheimer lives.

Additional county committee endorsements include two each from Allendale, Bogota, Franklin Lakes. Midland Park, and Teaneck, four from Ridgewood, five each from Closter and Waldwick, and six from Fair Lawn.

Gottheimer won the Warren County Democratic convention on Sunday by a vote of 34 to 20.  He has already won the organization line in Passaic County, where Democratic county chairman John Currie and party officials meet behind closed doors for a private vote.
