Rep. Andy Kim’s constituents want him to back impeachment.
During a townhall in in Riverside Wednesday, Kim was met with calls to join the 118 other House Democrats—a group that includes Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman and Rep. Tom Malinowski—in backing an impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, according to a report in the Burlington County Times.
“With a majority of House Democrats now backing the baseless effort to impeach the President, Kim will be forced to either commit political suicide and back impeachment in a district President Trump won, or continue to upset his rabid base of supporters who want nothing more than impeachment,” National Republican Congressional Committee press secretary Michael McAdams said. “No matter what he chooses, Andy Kim will be alienating a large swath of voters in a swing district he barely won.”
Kim’s victory in New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district was the narrowest in the state. He won with 50% of the vote, edging out Rep. Tom MacArthur by less than 4,000 votes thanks to huge majorities the then-challenger built up in Burlington County.
MacArthur held a similar, but slightly smaller, lead in Ocean County.
Kim will hold three more town halls in August, two in Ocean County and one in Burlington County.
On Aug. 4, Kim will take questions from his constituents at the Second Baptist Church of Toms River.
On Aug. 14, he’ll hold a town hall at Fire Station 303 in Burlington Township.
The congressman will finish the month with a town hall at Lacey Middle School in Forked River on Aug. 29.
