Gottheimer airs first attack ad

By Nikita Biryukov, September 20 2018 2:18 pm

Rep. Josh Gottheimer released his first attack ad of the cycle on Thursday, taking aim at opponent John McCann over allegedly double-dipping while he was an employee of Bergen County Sherriff Michael Saudino.

The ad, which parodies a scene about double dipping from Seinfeld, follows a line used by McCann’s once-primary rival Steve Lonegan.

In addition to an attack over McCann’s $140,000 political position under Saudino, who has endorsed Gottheimer, the ad targets McCann’s voting to raise property taxes during his time as a Cresskill councilman. Lonegan leveled the same attack.

Those attacks didn’t win Lonegan the nomination, so it remains to be seen how effective they’ll be for Gottheimer.
