McCann bashes Saudino for Gottheimer endorsement

Republican John McCann says he’s unhappy that his friend and boss, Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino, has endorsed his opponent, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff).

“Unfortunately, he is doing what he has to do to survive, placing partisan politics above friendship,” said McCann.  “Eight other New Jersey sheriffs have endorsed me and have recognized these four points.

Saudino was originally elected as a Republican in 2010 in a campaign McCann helped run, and switched parties to run for re-election as a Democrat in 2016.

“By endorsing a democrat in this national election, Saudino wants to put the gavel back in the hands of Nancy Pelosi and liberal Democrats,” McCann said.

McCann said that many of the achievements Saudino takes credit for, like saving over $1 million in healthcare at the county hail or outfitting Sheriff’s officers with body camera, were actually his initiatives.
