With nineteen days to go before the mid-term election, retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen is sitting on a $488,244 campaign warchest.

Frelinghuysen, 71, announced on January 29 that he would not seek re-election after 24 years in Congress.

The Morris County Republican raised no money in the third quarter of 2018, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, but he still spent $24,000 to pay two fundraising firms: Virginia-based Rose Strategies and Tusk Productions in Denville.

Frelinghuysen gave a little more than $14,000 to Republican organizations in Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties.  He contributed $5,000 to the Morris County Republican Victory PAC, which is run by John Sette and Rob Zwigard, but nothing to the Morris County Republican Committee that is run by their rival, Ron DeFilippis.  He contributed to just two candidates directly: $500 each to Sussex County Surrogate Gary Chiusano and Passaic County Clerk candidate Ronald Fava.

Frelinghuysen’s political action committee, Liberty and Prosperity PAC, has $22,344 left in the bank.  He reported paying Rose Strategies $6,000 for fundraising, even though the PAC had no revenues in the last three months.

The PAC contributed $12,000 to House candidates, including $2,000 to Assemblyman Jay Webber, who is running to succeed him in New Jersey’s 11th district.  Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River) received $1,000, but nothing for Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton) and Rep. Christopher Smith (R-Hamilton).

Frelinghuysen, the chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, has not contributed to the National Republican Congressional Committee in the last three months, either through his campaign committee or via his PAC.
