U.S. Senator Cory Booker has endorsed Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) for re-election to a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Booker’s support follows announcements on Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Conference Chairman Hakeem Jeffries were supporting Gottheimer in the July 7 primary against progressive Arari Kreibich.

The three endorsements evinces a major show of force against a Friday endorsement of Kreibich by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts), a House freshman and member of “The Squad.”

“I am so proud and honored to endorse my great friend and colleague Josh Gottheimer. I’ve seen firsthand how hard he fights for his District and New Jersey families as we’ve worked closely together to tackle so many of our nation’s most pressing challenges, from battling the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting our communities through this difficult time, to protecting affordable healthcare, fixing our infrastructure, creating jobs, and building a more fair and just country for every person in our nation,” Booker stated.

Booker faces his own progressive primary challenge from Lawrence Hamm, a former Newark school board member and chairman of Bernie Sanders’ New Jersey campaign.  Booker and Gottheimer are running on organization lines together in Bergen, Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties.

“No matter the challenge, Josh is dedicated to bringing people together to get things done while ensuring our nation lives up to our greatest ideals of equality and opportunity for all,” Booker said.  :Josh has my full support and it is urgent that he is reelected to another term in Congress, so that we can continue moving our state and our nation forward.”

Gottheimer was one of Booker’s earliest supporters in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“Cory is as passionate and effective a voice for our shared values as there is – a shining example of what public service is all about,” said Gottheimer.  “I’m proud to fight alongside him to build a brighter future for our families.”

Known as the Human Fundraising Machine, Gottheimer had over $7.9 million in his campaign warchest at the end of the 1st quarter of 2020.  He has also raised millions for House Democrats, and raised money for Booker.

Kreibich, a Glen Rock councilwoman, has struggled to raise money.
