The American Federation of Teachers endorsed Amy Kennedy’s second-district House bid Wednesday.
“As the daughter of educators, a former public school teacher, a mental health advocate and the mother of five, Amy understands the struggles that AFT members and all the people of South Jersey are facing. Amy is committed to fighting for public schools and the teachers, students, education support professionals and working families that rely on them,” AFTNJ President Donna Chiera said. “I also know that Amy will help keep the promises made to educators and make sure that they can count on the retirement benefits they earned, including their pension and social security.”
Kennedy is seeking to oust Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis), who was elected as a Democrat in 2018 but defected to the Republican party last year after losing support among rank-and-file Democrats over his opposition to impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
I am honored to have earned the support of my fellow educators and advocates,” Kennedy said. “In Congress, I will be a champion for our students, educators, support professionals and working families.”
