Short of replicating Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop’s strategy of an early entrance into the 2025 New Jersey governor’s race, prospective gubernatorial candidates are looking for other ways to pick up political IOUs as they mull their possible candidacies.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) is using his human fundraising machine talents to boost the coffers of his fellow Democrats on the ballot this year.
He’s already brought in big dollars for the Senate and Assembly Democratic campaign committees. This week, he went to Monmouth County to raise money for their county organization.
“It was great to join Senator Vin Gopal at Johnny Mac’s in Asbury Park to support the phenomenal Monmouth County Democrats last night. We have so much opportunity in Monmouth County to hold and flip seats and to gain ground. I know we’ll get it done in November,” Gottheimer said. “This year, it’s about fighting for our Jersey Values — lowering taxes, protecting a woman’s right to choose, our environment, and our seniors and families.”
The four-term congressman was joined at the Monmouth event by Democratic legislative and county commissioner candidates, and his campaign Sherpa, Michael Soliman.
Gottheimer’s fundraising tour will continue over the next few months. In October, he’s headling a fundraiser with Mercer County Democratic Chair Janice Mironov.
Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) has also been raising money for Democrats this year. Fulop has pledged to use his super PAC to help candidates this cycle.
The New Jersey Education Association placed roughly $1.1 million of cable television ads running over the next three weeks across the state. The president of the teacher’s union, Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller, is among the Democrats mulling a run for governor.
