The Human Fundraising Machine was in Union County tonight to help Democratic senators stockpile cash for the 2023 midterm elections – and maybe pick up some IOUs for a race down the road.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) raised over $100,000 for the Senate Democratic Majority campaign, helping Senate President Nicholas Scutari and three Senate Democrats in targeted districts: Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch), Joe Lagana (D-Paramus), and Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick).
A potential candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2025, Gottheimer praised Scutari’s leadership as Senate President and as the Union County Democratic chairman. Scutari is also a possible candidate to succeed Gov. Phil Murphy, who is term-limited.
“I’m honored to support Nick Scutari and the Senate Democrats who are fighting every day to protect our Jersey values — from lower taxes and clean air to choice and first responders,” Gottheimer said. “It’s about commonsense over extremism, and that’s how we will win big this November.”
Bergen County Democratic Chairman Paul Juliano, a co-host of the fundraiser, was also in attendance, along with Mercer County Democratic Chair Janice Mironov, the mayor of East Windsor, Democratic powerhouse Gary Taffet, and Gottheimer’s sherpa, Michael Soliman.
Another likely gubernatorial aspirant, Rep. Mike Sherrill (D-Montclair), is hosting a fundraiser for Senate and Assembly Democrats on June 15.
