Despite West New York Mayor Felix Roque’s call for a new Hudson County Executive, incumbent Tom DeGise has won the endorsements of three of the other four West New York Commissioners, as well as Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez and Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez.

West New York Commissioners Cosmo Cirillo, Margarita Guzman and Gabriel Rodgriguez are with DeGise.

The move calls into question whether West New York can be counted as part of the anti-DeGise faction.

DeGise already has the backing of Rep. Albio Sires, a former West New York mayor and Assembly Speaker.

“As our County Executive, Tom DeGise has been a true partner and friend to the residents of West New York and there is no one we would rather support for another term,” said Jimenez, a West New York resident. . “Tom is a progressive, effective leader and his administration has championed the issues and services that matter most, like making investments in public education, open space, transportation and everything our county needs.”

County Executive DeGise announced that he would seek re-election next year despite calls by Roque, Union City Mayor Brian Stack, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla to step down.

“As County Executive I have always made it my mission to represent the interests of all 12 municipalities that make up our county, and I am so proud to see the leaders of West New York recognize that commitment and come together to support our campaign,” said County Executive DeGise. “The outpouring of support we have received from all over Hudson County speaks volumes and I look forward to announcing additional supporters soon.”
