Phil Meisner, the Democratic organization candidate for mayor of Englewood didn’t move there until 2015, according to his voter registration records.
Meisner voted in Woodcliff Lake through the 2014 election, which means he never voted for Frank Huttle, the outgoing mayor who handpicked him as his successor. He faces former mayor Michael Wildes in the June 5 Democratic primary.
Meisner is the Englewood Democratic Municipal Chairman. His website says he “grew up in Woodcliff Lake, settling in Englewood after he began working in the city nearly two decades ago.”
“Phil fell in love with the community and the people, and decided to make Englewood his home,” his biography says.
Meisner worked as a legislative aide to State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck), as legislative director to Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood), and as chief of staff to Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Englewood). Assemblywoman Huttle is Mayor Huttle’s wife.
“As I have walked door to door in this campaign meeting thousands of voters, the most common question I receive about my opponent is simply, ‘Who is he?'” said Wildes. “Now we know why no one seems to know him and why he’s spent this campaign attacking my character — because he’s only lived here for a few years and has no understanding of our community and what makes Englewood special.”
Meisner voted in Woodcliff Lake from 2008 through 2014, and before that in Hawthorne, Mahwah and Brick.
The Meisner campaign didn’t immediately respond to a call seeking comment at 11:42 AM.

I am a senior citizen, I reside in Englewood NJ
I have worked as a Social Worker in Englewood for over 30 years. I have witnessed a 180 degree change in the impetus that makes people to partake in the Democratic process known as voting.
In years past candidates lived or died on factors such as economics and progressive change.
I recently read an article about the 10 greatest Presidents.
I noticed that the number one negative factor against former Presidents was their lack of equality for all.
In the past 60 years, how Presidents handled global crises and international relations became leading indicators.
I fast forward to present day politics and many of the electorate consider whom the candidate aligns themselves with…
It is entirely possible that an opponent may have posters depicting their adversary with an unpopular person currently serving in public office.
I believe In the Mayoral election in Englewood there is a distinct difference in the platforms of the
Democratic party candidates.
Michael Wildes has what I term history…
I met Phil Meisner for the very first time just 2 days ago.
I know every elected official personally and have known them for more than 20 years.
I have worked with these officials to improve the living and working conditions of Englewood residents.
I feel this type of symbiotic relationship is essential to a flourishing community.
In closing I have heard and read what candidate
Wildes stands for, the time is short, I have yet to learn what candidate Meisner stands for.
