Former Galloway Mayor Don Purdy has decided not to challenge Atlantic County Republican Chairman Keith Davis when the party holds their reorganization meeting next month.
“I’m not running because people have vendettas against my businesses,” Purdy told the New Jersey Globe.
In April, Purdy said he was preparing to challenge Davis. It won’t happen this year but might somewhere down the road.
“I’m not closing any doors,” Purdy said. “The door is open to any option in the future.”
This now leaves Davis, the county chairman since 2005, unopposed in the June election.
Davis disputes Purdy’s claim.
“That’s a lie. No one threatened his many businesses. He got out because he had no support. Not even in his home town of Galloway,” Davis said. “But I wish Don well. I hope he’s successful in his businesses and in life. I’m going to focus on party unity and rebuilding our organization starting in Galloway Township. We have a lot at stake this year and I look forward to continuing our progress in Atlantic County.”
