It’s a turbulent day in Hudson County politics, where four mayor said today that they want to drop Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise from the Democratic ticket in 2019 and replace him a new candidate.
So far, Union City Mayor/State Sen. Brian Stack, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and West New York Mayor Felix Roque say they won’t support DeGise for re-election.
The names of potential candidates are already circulating. Sources say that the leading candidate is Freeholder Bill O’Dea (D-Jersey City), but that State Sen. Sandra Cunningham (D-Jersey City) and Hudson County Clerk Junior Maldonado (D-Jersey City) are also in the mix.
Another name being floated is Freeholder Anthony Vainieri (D-North Bergen). But Vainieri is part of North Bergen Mayor/State Sen. Nicholas Sacco’s organization, which DeGise says is with him.
