Assemblyman Ryan Peters (R-Hainesport), called a rising star by some of the state’s Republicans, is not considering a run at the governorship in 2021.
“I’m here to put in the work. I’m a freshman assemblyman. It’s been four months. I’m really starting to dig in here in Trenton and learn the policy, the background,” Peters said Thursday. “I’m in no rush to run into that mix.”
Peters, a U.S. Navy reserves lieutenant commander, was chosen by the Burlington County Republican Organization to run for his assembly seat in September 2017, less than two years into his first three-year term as a Burlington County freeholder.
Still, he’s not hurrying to move further up the ladder.
“In the military, we say ‘there’s a crawl, walk, run or there’s a sprint, stumble, medivac,’” he said. “I’m in no rush to sprint, stumble and medivac.”
