Ocean County Democrats have endorsed former Obama White House staffer Andy Kim to run against Rep. Tom MacArthur, Josh Welle to take on Rep. Chris Smith, and State Sen. Jeff Van Drew as their candidate for the seat being vacated by 12-term Republican Rep. Frank LoBiondo.

Welle, an Annapolis graduate and Navy veteran, defeated former Asbury Park Councilman Jim Keady by a vote of 40-16 to win the Ocean County organization line in the 4th district. He won the Democratic line in Monmouth County last week.

Van Drew defeated Tanzie Youngblood to win the Ocean line.  Sean Thom and Will Cunningham did not attend the convention.

Kim was unopposed for organizational support in the 3rd district.

Ocean County Democrats also backed U.S. Senator Bob Menendez for re-election.
