No chance DeGise will back Fulop for re-election

‘Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out’

Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise has ruled out backing Steve Fulop for a third term as mayor of Jersey City in 2021.

“I will not support him.  I’m not even sure he’ll run again,” DeGise said.  “He seems a little bored.  He’s looking for a new conquest. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.”

Fulop and Union City Mayor Brian Stack led a bid to oust DeGise from his job next year – a move that led to his daughter defeating Stack in a race for county chair on Tuesday.

With the Hudson County warette now over, DeGise is now a safe bet for re-election to a sixth term.

He said it is too early to consider potential candidates for mayor in three years.

DeGise said that he’s spoken with Stack and is confident that their relationship will be repaired.

“Brian has been very gracious.  He said he was really sorry this happened,” DeGise said.

There is still one thing DeGise wants to know.

“I told him someday I want to hear the story about why he did this,” the county executive said.
