Machinists strike at IKEA distribution center

By Nikita Biryukov, January 22 2020 12:34 pm

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge I061 is striking against an IKEA distribution center in Westhampton.

The union rejected the Swedish furniture giant’s last contract offer over removal of job security provisions and a lack of changes to the paygrade steps.

The union said pay advanced too slowly for workers.

The strike began on Jan. 20 and continues at 6 a.m. each morning.

  1. We need someone to bridge the gap between the business and the union to negotiate a solution to end this strike. I have worked at the distribution center for over 20 years. Lots given, received and invested with this company, so there’s a lot at stake. Whoever has the courage to resolve this will have my respect. If there is a political solution, you’ll get my vote too.
