The state’s largest LGBT organization has endorsed candidates in the May 8 non-partisan municipal elections.

Garden State Equality, which boasts 150,000 statewide members, is backing Assemblyman Reed Gusciora for mayor of Trenton, former Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell for mayor of Bayonne, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for re-election to a second term.

“We carefully selected the candidates that we feel will uphold the goals and ideals we fight for every day,” said Christian Fuscarino, Executive Director of Garden State Equality. “We are proud to support them and look forward to working with them toward a more equal New Jersey.”

Gusciora is the only openly gay member of the New Jersey Legislature.

The group is also backing Czezre Adams for the Newark city council, Alexandra Harwin for Ridgewood Village council, and Elvin Montero for Trenton city council.
