Blood under fire for racist slur

By David Wildstein, February 12 2018 11:26 am

Comments made by the Deputy Mayor of Mendham that are being interpreted as racist are expected to lead to a call for his resignation at a town council meeting this evening.

“Illegals are everywhere,” Rick Blood wrote on a since-deleted Facebook post.  “We are being invaded by illegals, we are becoming a nation of victims where every Tom, Ricardo and Hasid is a special interest group with special rights to a point where we don’t even recognize the country we were born and raised in.”

Blood, a Republican, wrote that a story equating immigrants with racoons and President Donald Trump as the exterminator try to get them out of your basement.

Blood says that Trump is “a bit of an ass” and an “egomaniac,” but says that “politicians suck” and that both parties are “two-faced and gutless.”  He says Trump is the only one to fix the immigration issue.

“We just want those racoons gone, out of our house, now,” Blood said.

Blood was defeated for re-election in 2017 by Democrat Amalia Duarte by 190 votes.  The Republican-controlled Town Council in former Gov. Chris Christie’s hometown kept Blood in office by appointing him to fill another vacant seat.

Update: Blood posted an apology on Facebook that said he was sorry for “fanning the flames on immigration.”

“Well after an unexpectedly rough day on FB. This has led to some introspection. This original post, copied and intended to be thought provoking and provocative certainly exceeded expectations. The purpose of the post was to illustrate, however poorly, one of the reasons our President was elected. Which was to clear the log jams in Washington,” Blood said.”

  1. During the Holocaust, Nazis referred to Jews as rats. Hutus involved in the Rwanda genocide called Tutsis cockroaches. Slave owners throughout history considered slaves subhuman. It is important to define and describe dehumanization, because it’s what opens the door for cruelty and genocide.

  2. Mr. Wildstein,
I’d be happy to provide my side of the story if you’re interested. I removed the posting once I realized the number of people who took offence. Then followed up with a posting explaining my stupid action of cutting & pasting from someone else’s posting and offered an apology. I also clarified my opinion on how the immigration problem grew so large after the last amnesty program. It is still available on my FB page if you care to read it.
