Joe Biden won a lopsided 84% victory to win the Democratic organization line in Bergen, the county with the largest number of residents — and the second-most number of registered Democrats — in New Jersey.
Biden defeated Bernie Sanders by a vote of 864 to 144, 84%-14%, with 20 votes (2%) going to Tulsi Gabbard.
One out of every ten registered Democrats in New Jersey live in Bergen County.
In 2016, Hillary Clinton carried Bergen County against Sanders by a 27 points, 63.5%-36.5%.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, county chairman Paul Juliano cancelled a convention scheduled for last week and instead held the contest online.
The result was an enormous turnout by county committee members.
Biden will run on the organization line with U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff), Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson) and Albio Sires (D-West New York).
