The Democratic National Convention’s Milwaukee host committee has fired two former top aides to Gov. Phil Murphy, Liz Gilbert and Adam Alonzo, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported tonight.
The announcement came one day after the host committee announced that they had suspended the two while investigating allegations that they created a toxic work environment.
“Every employee has a right to feel respected in their workplace,” the committee said. “Based on the information we have learned to date, we believe the work environment did not meet the ideals and expectations of the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee Board of Directors. Accordingly, Liz Gilbert and Adam Alonso are no longer employed by the organization, effective immediately.”
Gilbert, the former executive director of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, has served as president of Milwaukee 2020. Alonso, Murphy’s former deputy chief of staff, was Gilbert’s chief of staff.
“Adam Alonso has consistently bullied and intimidated staff members, but of note is that this is primarily directed at the women on staff. Resulting in a culture that coddles male senior advisors and consultants who have no clear role or clear lines of management,” the unsigned letter printed by the Journal Sentinel said.
The Democratic State Committee terminated its contract with Alonso on Monday evening.
