Pocino says Puerto Rico governor must resign

Labor leader: Roselló no longer represents stable, ethical governance

By David Wildstein, July 23 2019 5:53 pm

Powerful labor leader Raymond Pocino is calling for the resignation of Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Roselló.

“Governor Roselló’s announcement that he will not seek re-election and is stepping down as the head of his party are certainly steps in the right direction, but they are not enough,” said Pocino, the Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager of Laborers’ International Union of North America. “For the good of the working men and women of Puerto Rico, the governor must resign his office immediately.:

Pocino’s union represents 9,000 employees in Puerto Rico.

“For the governor not to recognize he is a distraction from the vast amount of work still left to do to rebuild the island is careless,” said Pocino.  “It has become clear that Governor Roselló no longer represents the stable, ethical governance that the island’s working people need. Those hard-working men and women and their families deserve better. He must resign now.”
