Liza Acevedo, an aide to Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, is been named Deputy Press Secretary to Julián Castro’s campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Acevedo worked as Deputy Press Secretary to Gov. Phil Murphy before moving to Coughlin’s staff as spokesperson. She will work out of Castro’s San Antonio campaign headquarters.
Castro, a former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and Mayor of San Antonio, named sixteen new campaign hires today, including Sawyer Hackett as National Press Secretary and Sebastian Kitchen and Alex Sarabia as Deputy Communications Directors.
“We’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and enthusiasm for Julián’s campaign following the first debate,” said Maya Rupert, Castro’s campaign manager. “As more and more Americans learn about his candidacy and our support continues to grow, so too will our campaign’s presence across the country. We’re excited to announce a new slate of talented operatives and organizers from all different backgrounds to help fulfill Julián’s vision for a more prosperous country for all of us.”
Prior to coming to New Jersey, Acevedo was the Director of Communications for New York State Sen. Michael Gianaris and worked on campaigns for Hillary Clinton and other New York regional candidates.
