Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says that Joe Biden is old and out of touch, that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren might be unelectable, and that he isn’t ready to endorse Cory Booker for the Demcoratic presidential nomination.

“I kind of think Biden is kind of a little it up there in age,” Fulop said today on Ebro in the Morning on Hot97 FM.  “ He’s talking loose and he’s out of touch. I do think you need a generational change.”

Fulop said that there are “authenticity issues on some of the other candidates on some of the other candidates.”

“I think they’ve been all over the map on some of the issues,” he said. “Bernie and Elizabeth, they believe what they say, which is good to hear, they’ve been saying the same thing for twenty years.

Still, Fulop says he doesn’t think Sanders and Warren can beat President Donald Trump.

“I don’t think they’re electable,  I think Trump’s gonna be tough to beat,” said Fulop.  “Are they going to vote for somebody who’s saying that ‘I’m a socialist?’”

Fulop pointed to his parents, both immigrants from Romania, as an example of people who might not vote for Sanders or Warren.

“They would immediately not vote for anybody who says they don’t believe in this country’s principles of capitalism.  They believe in socialism. That’s how my parents would look at it,” Fulop said.

The mayor of New Jersey’s second largest city hinted that a Booker endorsement is not in the offing.

“I’m kind of on the sidelines.  I’m probably the only guy in New Jersey that’s not with Booker,” Fulop said. “I don’t really believe just because you come from the same state that you’re going to do the best job.”

Fulop announced earlier this year that he made a personal contribution to South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg to help him get on the debate stage.  He said that should not be construed as an endorsement.

Booker has the backing of Gov. Phil Murphy, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, all 21 Democratic county chairs, and Mayors Ras Baraka of Newark and Andre Sayegh of Paterson.
