AP calls New Jersey wins for Biden, Booker

The Associated Press projects former Vice President Joe Biden and a U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-Newark) will win their races in the Garden State.

Biden is challenging President Donald Trump. Booker is running against former Food and Drug Administration official Rik Mehta.

The race call was made when polls closed at 8 p.m. Democrats enjoy a huge registration and organizational advantage in New Jersey’s statewide races.

The state last backed a Republican presidential candidate in 1988, when it voted to elect President George H. W. Bush. New Jersey hasn’t backed a Republican for U.S. Senate since 1972, when Sen. Clifford Case won his last term.

The New Jersey Globe has not yet called the race. Look here for an explanation of how we will.
